SANE:INSANE (El camí de Sant Rafael) is my first musical output in over two years. The journey, from conception to release, has been a long one so I wanted to provide an insight…

The roots of SANE:INSANE can be traced back to a late night psychedelic electronic jam over three years ago in my home studio, when I came up with a recurring riff mantra which instantly felt so good I couldn’t stop playing it. I played the bare bones of the track in a live set shortly afterwards, where comrade and spiritual advisor DJ Joey B-Side witnessed and testified that it needed to be recorded. Joey has been a constant source of influence and encouragement during this process, without whom this track possibly wouldn’t have seen the light of day.

SANE:INSANE is the result of a three year work in progress. This has been a process of many stops/starts, doubts, perseverance, determination and HOURS! Numerous mixes have been made, and discarded. Because the initial idea felt so good, I think there was a (self-imposed) pressure to get the track exactly right, an unattainable perfection! In the end I wanted to strip the layers back and only include what was necessary and what was going to be effective for the listener. This lesson has been an enlightening one.

SANE:INSANE (El camí de Sant Rafael) combines a lot of my musical inspirations - from the electronic, ambient jams of Aphex Twin’s ‘Selected Ambient Works’, to the Balearic sounds of the early 90’s Ibiza clubs ‘Amnesia' and ‘Privilege’ in Sant Rafael.

A word from Joey B-Side:

Before the alcohol and ecstasy soaked years of San Antonio, Ibiza was a spiritual asylum from General Franco's Dictatorship and where the playful sought sanctuary. In the late 70 and early 80's, long before Balearic and Acid House, the avant-garde and flamboyant from Spain and around the globe journeyed 'El cami de Sant Rafael or 'The Road to Sant Rafael'. Home of the legendary 'Ku Club' where a Utopian, Hedonistic Playground like never seen before was created and changed the world as we know it.
